17/10/23

Oman Cables Industry (OCI) recently unveiled the 2nd edition of the SHE STEMS programme following up on a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation (MOHERI).

The initiative was introduced a year ago to empower young Omani women to excel in the nation’s industrial workforce, especially in the STEM sectors (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Last years programme enjoyed incredible success and the first graduates were inspired to gain employment in the industrial sector. As a result, several students were offered full-time employment with OCI, while 6 others were offered positions abroad.

Most importantly, the 2023 SHE STEMS scheme aligns with Oman's Vision 2040 objectives and supports progress and inclusivity. Furthermore, the OCI has enhanced the programmes structure to offer a new and improved learning experience. The goal is to shape the leaders of tomorrow, based on a curriculum that encourages innovation and excellence, setting new benchmarks for gender diversity, equal opportunities and career development.

Over 1,900 candidates have already applied, demonstrating the eagerness of Omani women to join the workforce. In the 2023-24 edition, the OCI will introduce a special module on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to develop students knowledge. This programme underscores the Sultanates social ambitions and the profound belief that Omani women will shape the nation's future.

Each training course accommodates 20 ladies, ensuring individual attention and personalised mentoring. Training sessions are conducted in English and last six hours per day for five days a week. The programme is open to Omani women between the ages of 24 - 30, who hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering. Prospective students undergo pre-selection assessments in English and mathematics and successful applicants receive a monthly allowance from OCI.
